Sanitarium named Employer of Choice
Media release - 12 August 2016
Sanitarium Health Food Company has picked up three honours at The Australian Business Awards 2016, being named winner in the Employer of Choice, Human Resource Management and Community Contribution categories.
It is the third consecutive year that the Australian-owned Central Coast-based business, best known for Weet-Bix™, Up&Go™ and So Good™ brands, has been named ABA100 Winner for Employer of Choice – one of The Australian Business Award’s top honours.
In being considered for the award, Sanitarium was required to demonstrate achievements in company culture; leadership and strategy; training and development; employee health, safety and satisfaction; performance management; and recognition and remuneration.
Sanitarium was also judged ABA100 Winner in the separate Human Resource Management category for its new Living, Learning and Leading by Values program that seeks to better align staff with its health and wellbeing mission and corporate values.
Commenting on the awards, Sanitarium Health Food Company General Manager, Todd Saunders said: “Sanitarium is an organisation truly driven by our mission and values, which helps us shape our vision of an ideal culture. Most importantly, it’s a vision shared by our people.
“We’ve worked hard to ensure that every staff member feels their contribution is valued and they can clearly see how they are contributing to our overall purpose. Our people tell us they feel they are given the authority, resources, experience and opportunity to perform in their roles, and compared to even the best businesses, we’re blessed with high engagement levels and low turnover rates.
“Winning the ABA100 Employer of Choice award for a third year in a row is testament to our ongoing efforts in empowering people to enjoy work and develop their full potential. Because people make up our business and without their passion, Sanitarium would not be in the leading position we find ourselves in today.”
Caring for the community
Sanitarium’s win in the ABA100 Community Contribution category of the Australian Business Awards 2016 recognises its work in helping fight hunger in Australia. Over 15-years in delivering its Good Start Breakfast Club program, Sanitarium has helped deliver 8 million healthy breakfasts and nutrition literacy programs to kids in vulnerable communities.
“Food insecurity is a critical and growing issue for many Australians, with thousands of families living hand-to-mouth or not knowing where their next meal will come from,” said Saunders.
“At Sanitarium, we not only believe in the potential of every Australian to be happy and healthy, we have the will to help. Caring for the community is in our DNA and for 118 years we’ve been committed to making food that is above all else, healthy, affordable and accessible. If our work with breakfast clubs can help thousands of Australians have a better start to their day, then we’re on the right track.”
